“Excuse me. What was that you said?”
“Hello Shang.
You heard me.”“You are LUCKY to be married to my niece. That is the only thing keeping me from disciplining you properly.”
“Hah! Disciplining me properly? You’re such a joke… you know, Mel asked me to try and get along with you, but it’s impossible, you are impossible.”
“A JOKE? And you are a liar. You haven’t even tried to get along with me. You are a mudslinger, and I don’t understand the infatuation Melody has with you.”
“So c’mon, tell me, what have I lied about Shang? A mudslinger? Dude, you seriously need to modernise your language, what does that even mean!? You’re too cold to understand.”

Jim shook his head, still holding her, he had began to rock her slightly like a baby, he hadn’t noticed of course, but there was something comforting about it really. “No no no..” He whispered to her. “It’s not you, it’s not you.” He shook his head again. “These things take time, Mel.” He buried his face in her hair, tears starting to form in his eyes, beyond his control.
Melody pulled back away from him, tears in her eyes. “It is me.” She nodded, sure of this fact, even if she had no proof to back it up. It was just something deep inside of her that screamed out at her. “And I know, but…” she began speaking, her words cut off by a sniffle, “I’m scared…so scared.” The admission was tough to make, but it was the truth. She was terrified. What if she could never get pregnant? What then? Failure.
Jim still persisted. “No, we don’t know that. We don’t know that Mel.” He’d never really considered fertility tests, but then, what had they got to loose? And sure it could’ve been either of them, Jim didn’t want to think about that though. “We’ve gotta think about our options…”
Melody lifted a hand, wiping her eyes. “True, true….options.” Mel had to remind herself that it was not hopeless. There was still hope, right? They could get through this. “…It’s ironic…I was so set on getting you out of bed, but now all I want to do is go crawl back into bed and stay there for the day.” She smirked weakly, finding some amusement in this.
“Exactly.” He nodded, glad that he had found a sort of pick-me-up. “It’s all right, we can do that if you really want. I’m not reluctant.” He said, nuzzling his head into her hair. “It’s gonna be okay Mel, it is.” He really did believe it, though his hope was slightly fading, he still knew that they would get through this.
Melody closed her eyes, resting her head against his chest. She could hear his heartbeat from this position. It was comforting to her, after what just occurred. “….Sarah won’t be happy if we slack off, though. But I just…after that, I just want to cuddle, as cheesy as that might sound.” She pursed her lips, nodding once again. “I hope you’re right.”
“Nah, mom won’t mind, if it’s what you want to do, then it’s what we’ll do.” Jim nodded. “Me too, and it’s not cheesy, it’s cute. I love you.” He tightened the grip on her, still gently and careful. “And I’m thinking, that maybe a fertility test for both of us would do us good, then maybe we can find out what’s wrong, what’d you think?”
